Biography


The young violinist Roberta Verna (born 1998), comes from a family of musicians and received her first lessons at the age of 5. At the age of 9 she entered the Pre-College of the HFM Würzburg as a young student in the class of Max Speermann. Afterwards she studied for a while with Prof. Daniel Gaede at the HfM Nuremberg. Currently she is being trained by Prof. Herwig Zack at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg.

The young violinist has already been awarded numerous prizes at national and international competitions. In 2017, she and her brother Richard Verna (cellist) were the youngest prize winners to receive the Cultural Promotion Prize of the City of Würzburg.

Roberta Verna made her first solo debut with orchestra at the age of 14 with the Thüringen Philharmonic Orchestra under Russel Harris. She has also performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Würzburg, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Baden-Baden, the Klassik Philharmonie Hamburg and others. Numerous solo recitals have taken her to festivals such as the Mozartfest Würzburg, the Schackenborg Music Festival, the Kronberg Academy, the Eggenfelden Klassisch Festival, the Kissinger Winterzauber, the Arbanassi Summermusic Festival in Bulgaria and the "Masterclasses Vienna".

In Masterclasses with Ivry Gitlis, Gil Shaham, Saschko Gavrilow, Pierre Amoyal, Rolande Daugareil, Irvine Arditti, Gerhard Schulz, Boris Brovtsyn and many others, she was able to gather further musical impulses. Roberta is highly acquainted especially as a chambermusic and orchestral musician and already in her early youth she gained important experiences with orchestras such as the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra (at that time as concertmaster), the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the European Philharmonic of Switzerland or the Lied Festival St. Moritz, therefore already since a young age had worked with well-known artists such as Mariss Jansons, Daniel Harding, Jonathan Nott, Martha Argerich, Charles Dutoit, Maria João Pires, Lucas and Arthur Jussen, Alexandra Conunova, Tobias Feldmann, Lisa Bathiashvili, John Axelrod, Vladimir Jurowsky, Lorenzo Viotti, Christian Thielemann, Christoph Eschenbach and numerous others.

In 2020 Roberta was part of the Orchestral Academy of the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra in Munich.

From September 2021 to November 2022 Roberta Verna was hired in the position of first concertmaster of the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra in Denmark, there she gained important impulses and experiences in the professional everyday life as concertmaster. After that, several projects and stand-ins with different orchestras resulted, such as concertmaster stand-ins with the Philharmonie de Luxembourg, twice as concertmaster in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, such as with the Hamburg Camerata. Her past projects also include jump-ins as assistant principal 2nd violin of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Harding and Christian Thielemann.

Meanwhile, Roberta is a member of the newly formed orchestra UTOPIA under the direction of Teodor Currentzis.

In addition to her studies at the University of Music in Würzburg and her freelance work as a concertmaster and orchestral musician, Roberta Verna also performs as a soloist.
